Today we made available the Google Desktop Gadget version of our KeepUp Widget. This gadget is very similar to our Yahoo Widget except it runs in the Google Desktop (which works on Windows and Mac). There are some small changes to the way things work.
To install the gadget, first make sure you have Google Desktop environment installed, if you dont, get it here and install it, then download the KeepUp Gadget and save it to your local hard drive in a place where you can find it. Once you have saved it, double click on it to execute it (or click open on mac), Google Desktop should recognize the file and install it to your desktop. It should open the gadget on the login screen.
Enter your user and password and click login
Once logged in you will see your 7 most pending tasks that are not complete, if they are red, they are overdue, yellow due soon and green not due for a while.
One new feature of the Google gadget is you can click on any task and it will show you all the notes for that task, just click the title of a given task.
Your tasks will refresh automatically every hour, but if you want to manually refresh, you can right click over the gadget and select refresh.
You can also click "New Task" or "View Tasks" to open your default browser and automatically login to the KeepUp service.
We hope you enjoy this new feature, as always let us know if you have suggestions for improvements!
Now you can call a number and speak your task and have it added to your KeepUp task list. Just follow these steps to setup.

Issues & Fixes
We have fixed the following critical issues:
437 - We have added an activation warning t the top of every page for users that have not activated their accounts. Users must first activate their accounts before any alerts will be delivered.
537 - When updating a club event, there was no way to update the reminder date for all subscribers. We have now added the ability to override reminder date when editing the club event due date.
567 - When texting yourself a reminder, some users, depending on their timezone, had a due date 1 day off of the proper due date.
The good folks at Yahoo have published our widget in their widget directory. We recommend installing from there if you haven't already as its much easier than downloading & unzipping from us.
Our Google Gadget is coming soon, we are in the final stages of testing it out and it should be ready soon! Check back here for updates.
If you get the print Journal, you can read our mention in the personal journal section, front page, see quick fix section on bottom right.

I am one of the founders of KeepUp and I thought I would share how my family uses the KeepUp service to keep up with all of the things in our personal lives. I will give some examples in each category of how I use them:
Clubs
We created a private club called "Nylund Kids Sports" and invited our local family members to join it. Here we put in all the information about the games our 3 kids are involved in - times, locations, even links to Google maps for directions to get there. Now, none of the grandparents will be left wondering what is going on the next weekend! When we get a new schedule for games, my wife and I enter them in once and they get published to all the subscribers of our private club.
Events
For events, I picked all the important tasks that a husband should never forget - Valentines Day, Anniversary, and Mother's Day. I also added "Daylight Savings Time" reminders, as here in the US East Coast, we turn our clocks back and forward once a year. You don't want to forget this!
Personal
Birthdays - well, just in my family (extended) we have over 20 of these. The good news is once you get them in, you have them forever. I like to set the reminders for these to send me a text on the day of the birthday so I don't forget to call my loved ones (something I used to do all the time). I also like to track Dentist and Physical Exams (with 5 in the family, it is hard to remember all of them). KeepUp reminds me of these, and in addition to getting email and text reminders, I also can to see a history of when I did what. I always forget!
Home & Garden
This is my favorite KeepUp category and the reason I wanted to create this service in the first place. No one gives you a manual of the stuff you have to do in your house! The idea of putting out a list, sorted by popularity of household maintenance tasks was the driving concept of this service.
In my case, I am very bad at remembering to change filters, so my favorite 2 reminders here are the furnace & humidifier air filter change tasks. I also like how I can capture the make and model in the reminder and the links for buying those filters take me right where I need to go. Here is a picture of my 'Change furnace air filter' Reminder (right)
For home, I also hate digging through all my files to try to figure out the multitude of paint color in the house, or what model my dishwasher is, or any other information about items in my house. This is why we created KeepUp Notes (sample on left), where you can create a sticky note and attach it to your house, pet, car or person. In my case I put in a ton of sticky notes about my house, here is a picture of what my house notes looks like:
Pets
This category is pretty easy for us as we only have one pet, our Cat Looney, but its good to get a reminder to take him to his annual checkup.
Other
The main items we added in here were reminders to renew Grandmas Antivirus subscription and remember to make periodic backups of our home computers.
Bundles
I am a Roman Catholic and I have a hard time remembering the non Sunday holy days of obligation. Fortunately, there is a bundle for this in the bundles section. (I should mention we at KeepUp welcome all types of religious reminders. If you have any religious holidays or reminders you would like us to enter, just let us know we will gladly enter them, or you can create a custom reminder and check the 'share with the community')
At this point I have 55 tasks in my "My Tasks" section and most of them are recurring (I don't ever have to enter them again, just check them off when done.
I hope sharing how I use KeepUp will give you some ideas for yourself or give you enough information to try the service out. It's FREE!
